For the third year in a row, the Northwest Trail Alliance will be hosting it's Tour de Tillamook event! This year's event features activities from last year's event, such as group site camping, children's mountain bike instruction, guided group trail rides, lunch and BBQ dinner on Saturday, and also new activities including a basic bike maintenance provided by Bike n' Hike, adult beginner mountain bike instruction, and an additional day of guided group trail rides. Registration is limited to the first 100 participants and will be closed one week before the event - no day of registrations.
Come spend the weekend with us exploring mountain bike recreational opportunities for the entire family in the Tillamook State Forest, just a short drive from the Portland metropolitan area. Instructors from the City of Hillsboro's Parks and Recreation Ready Riders Rock program and Northwest Trail Alliance will be on hand to provide 4 hours of mountain bike skills development sessions and a guided trail ride for child participants! New for this year, 4 hours of adult beginner mountain bike instruction provided by Northwest Trail Alliance instructors will be available for an additional fee of only $10! Trail rides, camping, BBQ, and more to occur all in the beautiful Tillamook State Forest!
We have an awesome list of sponsorship so far and we are continueing to solicit and accept financial and material donations to provide a high quality event at a very low cost. If you are a potential sponsor or an organization looking to possibly partner on this event please contact Ryan Kilgren (Co-Chair Tour de Tillamook Planning Committee) to discuss these opportunities. We are also looking for folks to volunteer during the event to guarantee its success. If you are interested in volunteer opportunities, again, please contact Ryan Kilgren.

Don't miss out on Tour de Tillamook!
Northwest Trail Alliance (NWTA) wants to make sure that you do not miss out on this year's Tour de Tillamook (http://www.nw-trail.org/2010_Tour_de_Tillamook)! Tour de Tillamook takes place July 30-August 1 in the beautiful Tillamook State Forest close to the greater Portland area!
The registration deadline for NWTA's 2010 Tour de Tillamook is rapidly approaching. This event is in it's 3rd year and really coming together as the signature family friendly mountain bike campout weekend. The event includes mountain bike instruction for children participants, lunch and dinner on Saturday, camping all weekend, guided mountain bike trail rides, demo bikes, onsite bike mechanic, bike mechanic trailside maintenance presentation, and new for this year is instruction for adult participants is being offered. It's going to be a super fun filled weekend with something for everyone. The registration deadline necessary so that we can adequately provide meals for all participants to keep the event quality high and the user pre-weekend planning/packing minimal. We do this to further encourage family participation - less work on your end hopefully means more fun all around!
We look forward to seeing you at 2010 Tour de Tillamook!
Kind regards
Ryan K.
What time do the group rides
What time do the group rides start on Saturday? 10am?
Thanks!

"Why, yes, honey, I do love this bike more than you."
Full yet?
Ryan / Fred,
Is this event full yet? I can't tell by looking at the registration links.
If not, is there any reason not to invite families outside of the NWTA? This seems like a good opportunity to attract new members. Why is there a registration deadline? Wouldn't it be better to run the risk of having 100 people show up for day-of registration?
Nonetheless, I'm glad I saw this tonight and still have the chance to sign up before the deadline. I can't imagine the kids' hysterics if I'd missed that and was denied entry on arrival.
Cheers,
.matthew
Matthew, The event is
Matthew,
The event is open to everyone, members and non-members. We decided to close the entry a week before to help us plan for food and drink. We didn't want to get caught with too little food andor drink.
That said, we wouldn't turn you away the day of. Come out and have fun with us.
Fred

Just registered for the adult introductory lesson. Can I reserve a demo bike or do I need to bring one with?

Reagan, We are not
Reagan,
We are not reserving demo bikes. It's first come first served. That said, in years past we always had enough to go around for those who wanted a demo. We are expecting Giant and Kona bikes as demos.

Child sized bikes
Hi Rainy,
We will have a limited number of child sized bikes on hand for the children's instruction on Saturday. These are being provided by the City of Hillsboro Parks and Recreation and Sellwood Cycle Repair.

Camping
Hi Ryan,
I mailed my registration, along with 40$ for the fee's but I marked on the form that I was not interested in camping. Well My husband has decided to come along, and we would like to reserve a tent spot. Is that OK? He won't be riding but should I send in more money since he'll be camping with me?
Thanks for all you do!
Rainy
Rainy, Come on out and
Rainy,
Come on out and camp with us. We are camping in a large meadow area near the Wilson River. There is no need to reserve a spot. Camping is included in the fee that you already paid, no need to pay anything more.
Fred
Camping...
Thanks Fred! Since our drive is quite long we thought we'd come out there on Friday afternoon / early evening. Can you suggest some basic things we should bring? We are very new to all this. :)
Thanks so much!
Camping items
I'm sending you some more information off the forum too, but here are the basics:
We have a group camping area reserved through the Oregon Department of Forestry. This is a large meadow area that should accomodate everyone that has pre-registered. This site has been paid for already and is included in the event registration cost for pre-registered participants. Our camping location will be between Jones Creek Campground and the Tillamook Forestry Center. We'll have access to the camping area through a gate for dropping off camping supplies and also via the Wilson River Trail for riding to event activities that are all very close to the meadow.
Individual campsites can be occupied for event participants through the regular first come first served process at Jones Creek Campground. This is a good option for folks that don't want to camp with the group, want more space to themselves, or whatever. Those sites are available through the reservation fee with the Jones Creek Campground camp host and the fee is not part of the Tour de Tillamook event.
Our camping location does not allow open campfires. We have reserved a regular tent camping site at Jones Creek Campground that families are welcome to use for having a campfire, roasting marshmellows, and etc.
What to bing for camping:
- Tent (rain fly and ground cover can be useful)
- Sleeping pad of some kind, sure beats sleeping on the ground :)
- Sleeping bag or blankets
- Pillow if you want one
- Flashlight(s) or headlamp(s)
- Food/snacks for meals outside of the lunch/dinner/snacks that will be provided on Saturday. Plan for breakfasts, food Friday and Sunday if you are planning to be there on those days.
- Camping stove/grill with enclosed flame for preparing any food items in the meadow area (there will likely be several of these from other campers, so some sharing is a likely scenario - so if you don't have this equipment, don't worry about it)
- Clothing for a variety of weather conditions, it may be warm during the day and quite cool during the night. A rain coat can't hurt, since the Tillamook State Forest is a temperate rain forest! Clothes for riding in, clothes for relaxing at the campsite in, a swimsuit for swimming in the Wilson River if you like.
- Basic toiletries (There is a hand water pump at the Jones Creek Campground, but otherwise no pressurized water - so no showers)
- Bike and bike helmet
- Camping/folding chairs for use in the meadow campsite
- Optional things to play in the river with - inner tubes, floats, rafts, etc. If there is interest, we could setup an inner tube shuttle activity for folks that wanted to float part of the river.
- Fun attitude!!
Did I miss anything?
Looking foward to seeing you all at this fun event!

Request for a Ride
Hi!
I and my friend are looking for a ride to this event as we don't have a car. We are planning to leave from Hillsboro on Sat morning and come back in the evening after BBQ. We would be really grateful if we could get a ride both ways. We have one bike with us and we are planning to borrow a bike at the camp site.
So please let me know if anyone can help us participate in the event by giving us rides. We are really looking forward to this event! We have tried the WAVE option but they don't seem to have any buses for the time frames we are looking at.
So, please contact me at uttarwartushar@yahoo.com or post a reply here if anyone can help us out. We won't mind if 2 different people can provide one ride each as long as we can get there and back on Saturday!
Thanks and hope to see some positive replies soon!

Great event
The event was great. My kid is hooked. Excelent organtization, SWAG and food. I need to put the date down for next year and spread the word.
Thanks for the hard work by and efforts by NWTA volunteers, City Parks and Forestry host.
Special thanks to Bike and Hike for letting my kid test ride a demo bike fancier and more expensive than mine...need to start saving I can see.
Fantastic Forest!!
This event was a wonderful family event and my first time really mountain biking. Took the adult instructional course with my husband and it was a blast! Thanks so much for your patience and time Dennis and Page(sp?)!! I learned a lot about my bike and my skill level... ;>)
It was really nice that there were loaner bikes for those, like my husband, who didn't have one. I think my husband might even buy a mountain bike. : )
Special thanks to Ryan, Fred, Wayne and all the others who volunteered their time to make the event so great! I hope we'll be able to attend more. Let me know if / when you have some easy rides near us here in Goldendale, or if I can help advocate for NWTA here in Klickitat County.
I took some pictures and will let you know where I put them so you can see / copy them. Or I can send you a CD.
Cheers,
Lori

2010 Tour de Tillamook - A Huge Success
Nearly 70 participants, ranging in ages from less than 2 to 65 years old, and coming from New York, British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon joined Northwest Trail Alliance (NWTA) for the 3rd Annual Tour de Tillamook July 30-August 1. The event is the premier children and family friendly mountain bike skills instructional and camping weekend event for the entire Pacific Northwest. Camping along the Wilson River, instructional sessions, group trail rides, relaxing, BBQ’ing, adult and children sized demo mountain bikes, on-site bike mechanic, and other activities were all included in this fun-filled, low cost, weekend held near-by Portland in the beautiful Tillamook State Forest.
This year approximately 20 children received mountain bike skills instruction provided by the City of Hillsboro’s Parks and Recreation Department mountain bike instructor, Bud Harris, and NWTA board member/Education and Outreach coordinator and Bicycle Transportation Alliance staff member Joel Holly. Northwest Trail Alliance member Cage Aaron and board member Dennis Veatch unveiled NWTA’s adult beginner mountain bike skills course to about 10 participants. NWTA’s mobile skills park was used for both instructional courses, and was on hand for all event participants to hone bicycling skills, including balance, cornering, and obstacle negotiation. Seven volunteers led group trail rides throughout the weekend on different trails for all skill levels.
The Tour de Tillamook continues to grow in popularity among families and singles alike as an excellent mountain biking event. NWTA encourages participants from this year and folks that missed out to watch the calendar and announcements closely for next year’s registration information and to do so early!
This year’s event was made possible through the generous donations and support received from sponsors, partnering organizations, and several dedicated volunteers! NWTA extends a BIG thank you to all those who helped out!
