Trail Building at Stub

Last weekends work party saw 9 volunteers from NWTA out to dig on a fine fall morning.   THANK YOU to all who came out to support trail building efforts at Stub Mountain Bike Area!

Our focus continues to remain on the south section of new trail and digging in northward direction - aiming to link up with the north loop section currently open for riding.

The trail we dug over past few work parties lays on the ground like this (the yellow pin is the viewpoint on north loop and is about 3/4 mile as crow flys from current end point of south trail and the left small small dot in distance is the second drainage crossing)...

Got quite a bit more terrain to scout between end point and the north section.

SURVEY: Stub Stewart State Park "Stub Mountain Bike Area" trails...

OPRD logoAs part of public process for developing trails, Oregon Parks & Recreation Department has opened up a survey to capture user feedback about the Stub Stewart Trails.  This has specifically been opened up to get input about Stub Mountain Bike Area trails which have been constructed by volunteer labor over the past several years.  At least 90 responses are needed to meet requirements for feedback about this new trail.

Raven's Ridge DH trail (near Timber, OR) - 1.2 miles / shuttlable

Raven's Ridge DH mountain bike trail (1.2 miles of single track) is near Reeher's Camp (which is near Timber, OR).  It's been around awhile but only recently was sanctioned by Oregon Department of Forestry as a legit trail (after discussions with local advocacy folks who got wind of possible dozers rolling into area and who pointed out to land mgr there's ZERO places like this in Tillamook State Forest and yet consistent and growing demand over past years).

Buxton into Stub Mountain Bike Area and back - Intermediate 10 mile ride

10 mile ride.  Paved path, fire road, single track loop; and back.   Decent intermediate ride good for cardio work out.  If you've ridden Forest Park, then this ride is a lot like that but a lot less crowded and includes 3 miles of mountain bike specific single track (which has same flow/feel as Rocky Point/Scappoose trails).

Start at Buxton trailhead of Banks-Vernonia trail and ride north towards Stub Stewart State Park, turn onto Hares Canyon trail in park and ride to Stub Mountain Bike Area - do the loop - then back down and out (the best part!)

Stub Stewart State Park - "Stub Mountain Bike Area" - OPEN

updated post: 9/16/2010: "Stub Mountain Bike Area" had soft-opening to public access in August. There will be a comment period starting before end of September to get feedback.

Original post:

Single track is done and ridable, but until signage is in place and the beginner path that threads thru middle is graded... the park ranger has these tasks on To Do... then zone remains with under construction status (ride at own risk).

On other hand, there are more than 14 miles of shared use trails in the park with much of them natural dirt surface. Much to explore if you've not been there. Gradual improvements are being made to park on a weekly basis, so trails are getting some TLC.
