4th Annual Labor Day Mountain Bike Shop Ride on Mt. St. Helens

We have made this an annual Labor Day Shop Ride as it is one of the only days in the summer the shop is closed so we can all ride together, and many friends come along. Come Join us on a great day of riding on incredible trails at base of Mt. St.Helens at Ape Canyon/Plains of Abraham/Windy Ridge Trail. This ride is open to all ages, but requires at least intermediate mountain bike skills and good level of fitness as there is lots of climbing at higher elevations.

Safe to say there is no other ride quite li

ke this anywhere in the states, and if you do only one XC MTB ride all year, this should be the one!

The trail climbs in forest that somehow survived the blast zone 30 years ago for about 4-5 miles, then it breaks out onto the Plains of Abraham. Good luck trying to stay on the trail as the views keep getting better and better. Stay on the main trail and finally reach a crossroads at 6 or 7 miles. Some use this as an out and back turn around but there is still lots to see and experience so keep most keep going! This new trail (#216) is slightly more technical with some ups and downs until you reach a knife edged ridge. Enjoy the run down this ridge and you will come to the stairs. This is where most of the group will turn around and head back, but there will be option to join others to Windy Ridge. Many walk, some ride, and others surf the pumice next to the stairs. Once you reach the dirt road turn right for 2 miles of very gradual uphill. You should now be at the Windy Ridge Viewpoint. From there there is yet another option to hit the Smith Creek Trail and make a loop out of the trip for total of about 30 miles, or Retrace your steps back to the car for 22 miles round trip.
