From the beautiful setting of the Hilltop Dayuse Area at Stub Stewart State Park, there were young mountain bikers in every direction, from 4-year olds on balance bikes, to 12-year olds on 26-inch mountain bikes. Adults and families shared in the fun too. Hillsboro Biking provided bike inspections and repair, while Hillsboro Parks and Recreation and the Bicycle Transportation Alliance provided bikes and helmets for those in need. NWTA assembled the ever-popular bike skills course for a warm-up and fun in camp.
After breaking into ability levels, event sponsors led kids and families on four different mountain bike rides through the park. Behind the dirt and sweat, the big smiles made it clear how much fun everyone was having. In fact, kids went on a second ride after lunch and couldn’t seem to put their mountain bikes down.
Stub Stewart State Park's ranger was also on hand with interactive displays about the park and its wildlife. NWTA's free BBQ lunch rounded out the day, keeping hungry mountain bikers happy.
Special thanks to Oregon State Parks, REI, Hillsboro Parks and Recreation, Hillsboro Biking, the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, and the Community Cycling Center for making the event a success.
Hope to see everyone out there at next year’s event!
