Vandalism on Wilson River Trail extension

The saga of the Wilson River Trail extension (Segment C-1) from Elk Creek
Campground east to Idiot Creek Road continues.  There was vandalism along the
flag line this winter, resulting in the theft of flagging and pin flags
delineating the new trail segment.  This set back is costly to correct for the
Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), as they are currently experiencing severe

PUMP Supports Grant Funding Requests to Lengthen Wilson River Trail

To continue providing and promoting mountain bike opportunities near the Portland metropolitan area, PUMP submitted a letter of support with a grant funding application from the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) to the Bikes Belong Grants Committee (http://www.bikesbelong.org/) for the first of three segmented extensions to the Wilson River Trail.  That letter is attached to this post for reader's information.

PUMP Contributes +460 hours to Tillamook Trails

Through a total of 15 PUMP and Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) led work parties, PUMP members and attendees of PUMP led work parties have contributed over 460 hours of volunteer time to maintaining and improving the trail and recreational opportunities in the Tillamook State Forest so far for the year 2009!  And, its not even May yet!

The equivalent volunteer labor contribution for the total on trail time is estimated at over $6,252, using the IRS conversion for volunteer labor rate of $19.51 per hour.

PUMP Opposes House Bill 3072

I wanted to provide information to mountain bikers in regards to Oregon House Bill 3072 (http://egov.oregon.gov/ODF/BOARD/docs/April_20_2009/2_Att_1.pdf) and PUMP's opposition to it.  This bill is crafted to re-define the meaning of Greatest Permanent Value of our State of Oregon forest lands.  The idea is to turn the Tillamook and Clatsop State Forests into industrial timber farms and to remove any other purpose from these lands.

Tillamook State Forest Work Party

ODF has moved the regularly scheduled work party to be a SOLV Clean Up for Tillamook Bay.  In addition, PUMP has contacted ODF in regards to hosting a work party on the Wilson River Trail for this Saturday, May 16th.  This work party may be led by ODF if staff are available, or it may be led by PUMP if ODF staff are not available.
